Tuckpointing
Replacing specific areas of mortar between bricks or stone, also known as tuckpointing, helps restore a building’s original beauty and structural integrity.
Masonry is an art, and our skilled masons work with precision, removing failed mortar by hand with a hammer chisel or in some cases with electric tools. We then install fresh mortar with a tuckpointing tool.
Mortar—a mixture of cement, fine sand, water and lime—can begin to crumble if it is continually exposed to water, for example from a clogged gutter. At MMI, our services include investigating any possible causes for mortar failure to help prevent new damage down the road.
